“It’s always funny to see people hiding behind an anonymous tag daring people to face them. Take off your sheet, step into the light, and we can have a conversation. Otherwise, you can do like the other lot.”

Hey D. I’m Africian American. And I think Marvel an DC are doing diversity right. I applaud you for coming out behind the face of anoyminity, especially when your message was met with such a marked response. And thank you for expanding on your initial thoughts.
But you are racist. It’s sad that you can’t see it. I’m not angry; I feel sorry for you. If you don’t think that comics readers are getting more diverse, and that the diversity of comic characters is not directly responsible, you are living under a rock.
I want my kid to be able to look at a comic book, and see that Spider-Man or Captain America looks like him. It’s a confidence builder to see people who you identify with depicted as heroes. Imagine if every white male was depicted as a thug, a terrorist or a sexual deviant. It would feel oppressive, real fast.
I want to see Sam Wilson be Captain America, but you know what? I don’t need Tony Stark to be replaced a black woman, or for Hawkeye to come out gay, etc. just so that those boxes get checked off. The writers take a big risk changing a character, but I can hardly say that it was done solely for attention or for additional readers. It’s done because it’s good story telling.
Do you think the fact that Miles Morales is Spider-Man changes anything? That some how the stories aren’t valid? If Bendis is as terrible as a writer as you state, wouldn’t the 200 issues of Ultimate Spider-Man not have sold well?
Then again, maybe you’re right. Maybe diversity is the problem. Let’s change all the characters to white blondes. What’s the worst that could happen?
